Presentation
The "véloroute" ("bike-road") is a signposted itinerary created so that cyclists can travel upstream alongside the Lot river.
80 kilometres long and practically flat, the route goes along little-used small roads chosen for their charm. The véloroute will guide you through the orchards where the famous Agen prunes originate, lead you along picturesque little streets and beckon you to laze around on the banks of the Lot.
In fact all along the way there are places to stop and relax by the river - something kids generally love!
Exploring the area will be enhanced by trips around the places you stay. An opportunity to gain a little height over the valley to visit the windmills, clock-towers, chapels, castles and mediaeval villages dotted about the hilly surroundings.
Arrival late afternoon in Castelmoron.
Settling in.
Dinner and night in pleasant guesthouse with its own pool

Nice ride setting off from the Domaine de Rambeau. You'll discover the "Véloroute" (bike road) and the banks of the Lot river. You may also like to visit the Museum of the Prune. Known as the black gold of Aquitaine, the Pruneau d'Agen is part of the agricultural heritage of the south-west of France. The Este Plum is ripened to perfection,to create a prune known worldwide for its sweetness and tender flesh.

From Castelmoron to Penne d'Agenais
42.5 km stage with total uphill 150metres (level 3/5). Estimated time 4hrs 30mins.
Today you take the Véloroute towards Penne d'Agenais. You will be going along narrow valley roads, pretty and shaded. The itinerary is dotted with old bridges and characterful towns. At the halfway point, you go through the town of Villeneuve sur Lot, the second in size of the Département, lying in a fertile plain surrounded by hillsides studded with orchards.
Dinner and night in a charming chambres d'hôtes in the historical heart of the town.
D4
Around Penne d'Agenais towards the Museum of foie gras
26.9 km stage with total uphill 150m (level 2/5). About 3hrs.
This is probably the most demanding stage of your holiday. You set off across the hills of the Lot. The roads are fairly tough and tortuous. There are historical monuments dating from the 11th century, local farms typical of the Occitan region, the Foie Gras Museum, winecellars and shops...
In fact it's a wonderful day out under the benevolent watchful eye of the Basilique de Penne d'Agenais.
